Eden Prairie Council to Consider New Protective Gear for Firefighters | Health
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
Eden Prairie's Fire Department says its firefighters need new turnout gear and it's asking the City Council to spend more than $200,000 to get it.
Approval of the contract will be on the council's consent agenda when it meets Tuesday.
Turnout gear is what firefighters wear to protect them when fighting fires. Eden Prairie Fire wants to buy 98 new sets to protect its firefighters.
"The hazards which face firefighters continue to intensify and the technology of protective equipment continues to evolve," said the department in its written request to the council. The new gear would bring all Eden Prairie Firefighters up to the current standards set by the National Fire Protection Association.
The plan calls for leasing the new gear for five years. Eden Prairie would pay $46,544.45 a year for a total of $232,722.23. The cost was negotiated by the South Metro Joint Powers Association.
